The shade studio

Pick a shade, see it on

Reviewers keep mentioning the colour wall. Try a few of May's real finishes below — every one shown here is work that has walked out of the studio.

May takes her time and works with your natural nail, not against it — the technique keeps them strong while they grow. Bring a picture, describe a mood, or just point at the wall.

  • Everyday nudes, soft pinks and sage tones for a natural finish
  • Ombre, chrome and pearl for something with a bit more shine
  • Freehand art & lettering — from tiny details to a full bold set

Shade names are our own descriptions of May's real finishes — the exact colours are chosen with you in the studio.

The studio

Just May, her table
and MoiMoi

Wick Lane Nails is a genuinely independent studio tucked into the creative warehouses of Fish Island. No chain, no rush — just May, more than twenty years of experience, and a colour wall her clients rave about.

Regulars describe a calm, spotless space, honest advice on keeping your nails healthy, and prices that are fair for London. And yes — MoiMoi, the resident supervisor, is usually on hand for cuddles.

  • Gentle, natural technique — no glue, no acrylic damage
  • One-to-one attention — you get May, not a queue
  • A calm studio a minute from Hackney Wick station

Good to know

Before you visit

How do I book an appointment?
Book online any time through Treatwell, give the studio a call on 020 3576 4966, or email May at wicklanenails@gmail.com. Appointments are recommended so May can set aside the time your set needs.
Will gel or BIAB damage my natural nails?
May's whole approach is built around not damaging the natural nail — no harsh glue, no heavy acrylic. Builder gel (BIAB) adds strength while your own nails grow underneath, and she'll advise you on aftercare so they stay healthy.
Can I bring a design or a picture?
Absolutely — from a simple everyday colour to detailed freehand art and lettering. Bring a reference photo or describe the look and May will take it from there.
Do you do children's nails?
Yes — little ones are welcome for fun, gentle designs. Just mention it when you book so May can plan the time.
